Julia Gnuse, also known as The Illustrated Lady, is the most tattooed woman in the world according to the 2011 edition of the Guinness Record book. She has tattoos in 95% of her body, including her face – unlike Isobel Varley who has 90% of her body covered with tattoo but save her face of the ink.
Born in 1959 in Flint, Michigan, Julia developed porphyria in her 30′s, a condition in which sunlight results in blistering of the skin. To cover those blisters, she decided to get tattoos after a plastic surgeon friend suggested it. She opt for colorful tattoos which covers her scars more easily.
Though her condition has a cure, the side effect could be blindness – a risk she don’t want to take.
Now in her 50′s and a proud Guinness record holder, Julia’s said she started getting tattoos on her legs to cover the blister scars. Then moved to her stomach, arms and back and before long got addicted to it. Her tattoos range from jungle scenes, cartoons to her favourite actors.
