Singapura, the Smallest Cat Breed in the World

Singapura is considered to be the smallest cat breed in the world. The adult females of the breed can weigh between 4-6 pounds while males can weigh between 6-8 pounds. This breed is characterized by silky sepia coat, large and usually amber or green in color, slim muscular body, cute little nose and large ears.

Singapuras possess an alert and playful disposition. It is described by the CFA as active, curious and playful. They are affectionate and desire human interaction and have a tendency to perch on high places, to allow them a better view of their surrounding. The breed takes it’s name from the Malaysian name for Singapore. It was brought to America in the 1970′s. They are also known as ‘drain cats’ because they were reputed to inhabit the city drains, and as the Singapore River Cat.

In the UK, a pet-quality Singapura can cost between £300 to £400 (US$500-$600 USD) while a show specimen can cost upwards of £600.
