Back in 1925, a certain Mr. Corbett had a vision of America by the year 1950. His vision was published in the Popular Science Monthly magazine August 1925 issue. According to him, by the year 1950, American city streets will have four levels. The top level will be for pedestrians, the second for the slow motor traffic, the third for the fast moving traffic and the bottom is for electric trains.

Amazing Vision of 1950 America in the Year 1925

July 15th, 2010 by admin | Comments Off | Filed in electronics, invention, scienceNASA Robot, Senseta MAX 5.0A, solves a 19-year-old murder mystery of Dawn Sanchez.
It happened in 1991 when Bernado Bass killed Dawn Sanchez. Her body and the murder gun was never discovered during the investigation. Bass’ car, in which Sanchez was last seen, was also missing which resulted to the dismissal of the case in 1991 due to lack of evidence.
The case was recently reopened when an informant told the authorities that the car may have been disassembled and buried in a large abandoned lot in Alviso. The exact location in the lot was not specified, and the cost to excavate the entire area was too high. Enter Senseta MAX 5.0A, a rover outfitted with a Geometrics G-858 magnetometer. Based on data gathered by the robot, the county excavated the site and retrieved car parts that matched the suspect’s car. On August 29, 2009, Bass pleaded no contest to the charges and was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to six years in prison.
Carnegie Mellon Innovations Lab (CMIL) in collaboration with the NASA Payload Directed Flight research team from the Intelligent Systems Division at NASA Ames, and the United States Geological Survey in Menlo Park, Calif., assisted the County of Santa Clara’s District Attorney’s Office in solving a 1991 cold case murder investigation. The team deployed a Senseta MAX 5.0A Rover, an autonomous ground vehicle, to perform magnetic surveys of a vacant lot in Alviso, Calif., looking for buried material evidence, which included car parts and a possible body buried in the old junk yard.

Swearing May Reduce Pain, Scientist Says
July 14th, 2009 by admin | Comments Off | Filed in scienceNow we have an excuse to swear (you know, those F_ _k and S_ _T), because scientist discovered that it’s not all bad. It can actually help reduce pain and make you tolerate it than any encouraging words can do. Scientist believe that the brain circuitry linked to our emotion is involved in this phenomenon.
So next time you’re in a doctor’s office for a flu shot, don’t be shy to swear. Give this post to your doctor and he’ll understand. Now I know why this lady is swearing a lot.
The study, published today in the journal NeuroReport, measured how long college students could keep their hands immersed in cold water. During the chilly exercise, they could repeat an expletive of their choice or chant a neutral word. When swearing, the 67 student volunteers reported less pain and on average endured about 40 seconds longer.

"LikeAFish" Artificial Gills, Swim Like a Fish Says Alon Bodner
September 16th, 2008 by admin | Comments Off | Filed in invention, scienceAre you dreaming of swimming like a fish? Well, the artificial gills is maybe the answer.
A brainchild of Alon Bodner, this battery-powered device named “LikeAFish” will extract oxygen from the seawater allowing for a tankless underwater diving. Although this new invention is in the prototype stage, Bodner says they are working hard to develop a prototype small enough for a diver to carry it on his diving vest. They are estimating that in two years a fully functional prototype will be available.
The system can work as a replacement of common ‘open diving systems’. However, because of large air and water requirements, the system is best suited for ‘closed systems’, also known as ‘rebreathers’.
Submarines and underwater habitats are private cases of rebreather uses, and where use of the new system would have enormous benefits. Many operations that are now considered to be ‘impossible’ become within reach when the underwater time of sub sea vehicles becomes virtually unlimited.
Americas’ Oldest Skeleton Found in Underwater Cave in Mexico
September 13th, 2008 by admin | Comments Off | Filed in places, scienceArcheologist believe they have found the oldest skeleton in the Americas – in an underwater cave in Mexico. The female skeleton named as Eva de Naharon, or Eve of Naharon, is believed to be 13,600 years old.
“We don’t now how [the people whose remains were found in the caves] arrived and whether they came from the Atlantic, the jungle, or inside the continent,” González said.
“But we believe these finds are the oldest yet to be found in the Americas and may influence our theories of how the first people arrived.”
In addition to possibly altering the time line of human settlement in the Americas, the remains may cause experts to rethink where the first Americans came from, González added.

Police Helicopter has Close Encounter with a UFO
June 23rd, 2008 by admin | Comments Off | Filed in military, offbeat news, scienceA police helicopter, with a three-man crew, had a close encounter with a UFO. They are forced to swerve sharply to avoid being hit by it. It would have been a direct hit, the crew said. This extraordinary incident which took place near an RAF base outside Cardiff, South Wales, was said to be the first sightings of its kind.
“They are convinced it was a UFO. It sounds far-fetched, but they know what they saw.
“These guys are hardened professionals and know people will take the mickey, but they are certain they saw a UFO.”
The source added to The Sun: “After the near-collision they decided to follow it to find out what the hell it was.
“They belted across the Bristol Channel in pursuit, but it was too quick. They got to the North Devon coast and had to turn back because they were running low on fuel.”
The police Eurocopter, an EC135T21, was hovering in the sky above RAF St Athan late at night, waiting to land, a police spokeswoman confirmed.
