Besse Cooper, World’s Oldest Living Person Since June 2011

At 115 years and 102 days at the time of this writing, Besse Berry Cooper of Monroe, Georgia in the United States is currently the world’s oldest living person since June 21, 2011 following the death of the ex-title holder Maria Gomes Valentim who was from Brazil.

Besse Cooper, who now lives in a nursing home in Monroe, was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records and was included in the book’s 2011 edition. She was born on August 26, 1896 in Tennessee and moved to Georgia during the World War I to find work as a teacher. She had four children, 12 grandchildren, and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Modern Times Forever, the Longest Film Ever Made

The Modern Times Forever is considered the longest film ever made to date. It was made by a group of Danish artists, Superflex, and was played via a projector at the 2011 festival IHME Project 2011, on the side of Stora Enso Building in Helsinki, Finland on March of 2011. The film is 240 hours or 10 days long.

The film is about what thousands of years of decay will do to modern architecture in the future compressed into the span of the 240 hours.

Giant Weta, the Largest Insect in the World

A giant Weta, found in the Little Barrier Island in New Zealand island, is thought to be the largest insect in the world to have been found to date. This gigantic insect weighs 71 grams – that’s heavier than three mice and even some bird species like the sparrow. It was found be adventurer Mark Moffett of Colorado, USA up in a tree after two days of searching.

Weta is the name given to about 70 insect species that can only be found in New Zealand. It’s body is similar to a cricket. The specimen that was found by Mr. Moffett had a wingspan of only seven inches but it’s body is huge in insect standard.

Artamène ou le Grand Cyrus, the Longest Book Ever Written

Artamène ou le Grand Cyrus (English: Artamène or Cyrus the Great) is the longest book ever written. This novel has ten volumes and was written by siblings Madeleine and Georges de Scudéry of France from 1649 to 1653. The book is composed of 2,100,000 words in over 8000 pages and was written in the French language.

The novel has more than four hundred characters and over one hundred settings. It has complex structure and plot making it difficult for the reader to acquire an overall grasp. If you however have time and can understand French, you can read it online at http://www.artamene.org.

127-Year-Old Steam-Powered Car Sold for $4.6 Million at Auction

A 127-Year-Old car called De Dion Bouton et Trepardoux Dos-a-Dos Steam Runabout was sold for $4.6 million at the RM’s Hershey auction recently at Hershey, Pa in the US. The steam-powered car is the oldest running motor car in the world, built decades before Detroit rolled out the Ford Model T.

The car is from the renowned collection of the late Mr. John O’Quinn. It can reach speeds of 38 miles per hour, and its steam engine requires a water refill every 20 miles. This four-eater averaged 16 miles per hour in the first ever auto race, in 1887.

Tata’s Nano, World’s Cheapest Car Covered in Gold is Worth $4.6 Million

Indian automaker Tata Motors, unveiled on March 2009 the world’s cheapest production car ever – the Nano car. This four-passenger city car was released primarily for the Indian market and has a prize of roughly US$3000. Now covered with gold and other expensive gems, this Nano can is worth $4.6 million – about the price of 1,533 Nanos.

This Nano car has 194 pounds of hard-crafted 22-karat gold, 33 pounds of silver and 10,000 precious and semi-precious stones. It will go on a six-month tour of towns where Tata has manufacturing plants. Perhaps to encourage more consumer to buy the once on demand car before my owners had incidents of spontaneous combustion that made it sales dropped considerably.

Methuselah, a Great Basin Bristlecone Pine, the World’s Oldest Living Organism

Methuselah is a Great Basin Bristlecone Pine tree growing high in the White Mountains in eastern California, USA. This tree in believed to be the oldest living organism in the world. In 2011, it’s age is 4,842 year old. It was sampled in 1957 by Edmund Schulman and Tom Harlan when it was 4,789 years old. It was estimated that it germinated in 2832 BC. Methuselah got it’s name from a Biblical figure who was mentioned in the bible to have lived until the age of 969 years.

Junrey Balawing, the Shortest Living Man in the World (2011)

Junrey Balawing of the Philippines is the new shortest living man in the world. He was officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records in June 10, 2011, a couple of days before his 18th birthday. His official height when measured by Guinness representative was 0.5993 m (1 ft 11 2⁄3 in) about the size of the 1-year-old baby.

Junrey comes from the town of Sindangan in the province of Zamboanga del Norte in the Philippines. He is a son of the Reynaldo and Concepcion. His mother said that he stopped growing after his first birthday and has remained the same size ever since. He loves to ride in his father’s shoulder and his mother’s arms.

Junrey took the world record title from Khagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal who was name the shortest living man in 2010. Khagendra was 0.67 m (2 ft 2 1⁄2 in).

BrewDog’s The End Of History, the Strongest Beer in the World

At 55% ABV (Alcohol by volume), The End Of History by BrewDog is the strongest beer in the world to date. This beer is served in a bottle wrapped with dead stoats, squirrels or hares. And if you don’t get drunk with the content, maybe the price will get you. Each bottle can be purchased at $762 – also the most expensive in the world. It is made by Scottish brewery BrewDog and only 11 bottles will be available for sale.

This concoction got it’s name from the famous work of philosopher Francis Fukuyama, who defined history as the evolution of the political system and traced this through the ages until we got the Western Democratic paradigm. For him this was the end point of man’s political evolution and consequently the end of history.

The End Of History tops the list of the world’s strongest and most expensive beer. Its nearest competitor, the Schorschbräu Schorschbock only have 43% ABV and is made by Georg Tscheuschner of Schorschbräu brewery in Northern Bavaria – a three time holder of the record.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, the Fastest Road-legal Car in the World

With a top speed of 431.07 km/h (267.85 mph), the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport edition is the fastest road-legal car in the world. That record top speed was recorded on June 26, 2010 by Bugatti’s official test driver Pierre Henri Raphanel and was verified by Guinness World Records officials.

This edition has only 30 to be built, of which 5 will be capable of this top speed and the first 5 production Super Sports will have the same black and orange finish as the record setting car. As a safety precaution and to protect the tires, the top speed of customer cars will be electronically limited to 415 km/h (258 mph).

Bugatti Veyron cars are designed and developed by the German Volkswagen Group and produced by Bugatti Automobiles SAS. It is named after the French racing driver Pierre Veyron, who won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939 while racing for the original Bugatti company. The car was also named Car of the Decade (2000–2009) by the BBC television program Top Gear.
